Breathe in deeply, hold it, and exhale completely. Repeat three times.
Relax. Visualize yourself in God's presence.
What does that feel like? Look like?
Is it an image of peace? Is it an image of anger? Conflict? Love?
Using the words of this mantra, say slowly: ''maranatha'' which is the oldest Christian prayer (it means 'come, Lord'), in Aramaic, the language of Jesus, used by St Paul at the end of the First Letter to the Corinthians (16:22) and found in the earliest Christian liturgies. Repeat the mantra slowly to yourself for as long as it takes to put yourself in a prayerful state.
Insofar as individuals are purged of their sensory affections and appetites, they obtain liberty of spirit in which they acquire the twelve fruits of the Holy Spirit.
St. John of the Cross
As you pray today, ask for the grace to be “purged of sensory affections and appetites” that will set you free and gift you with the fruits of the Holy Spirit.
Quiet yourself. Open your heart.
Take three deep breaths.
Disconnect and listen.
How long would you like to pray for?
