Put yourself in a comfortable position that will allow you to concentrate and feel calm. Breathe in deeply, hold it, exhale completely. Repeat three times. Relax. Visualize yourself in God's presence.
Using Psalm 46:10, say slowly:
Be still and know that I am God
Be still and know that I am
Be still and know
Repeat a few times.
Relax and breathe in deeply, hold it and exhale completely.
You are trying your best just to be with God.
In this union the soul will love God intensely with all its strength and all its sensory and spiritual appetites. Such love is impossible if these appetites are scattered by their satisfaction in other things.
St. John of the Cross
John warns us against a divided heart and invites us to “love God intensely” - focusing all our longings and appetites on God alone. Be single-hearted in prayer today.
Quiet yourself. Open your heart.
Take three deep breaths.
Disconnect and listen.
