On the Celebration of our 150th Anniversary in the United States

October 22, 2014 |

As we write this, Carmelites from all over the globe are arriving in Leavenworth, Kansas to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Carmelite order in the United States. The sesquicentennial event is being marked with a three-day celebration/symposium in Leavenworth entitled “Carmel’s Journey to the Frontiers.” The event, which begins Thursday, features numerous free events and lectures as well as a concert by grammy-winning choir, Chanticleer (ticketed) and a talk by John Allen Jr, Vatican correspondent for CNN and The Boston Globe (also requiring tickets). For more information visit www.carmel150.org.

For those who won’t be able to join us we ask to join us in your prayers during this joyous celebration. If you’d like a meditation aid, we encourage you to use “Flos Carmeli,” a new work by Fr. Ricky Manalo, CSP, commissioned for the celebration. Listen below (please allow your computer a few moments to load the song):
