Novices Profess Simple Vows in El Salvador, Brothers Renew Vows in DC

January 6, 2015 |

CAROUSELvows3On Saturday, January 3 in El Salvador, the Prior Provincial received the vows of Santos Cecilio Hernandez and Saúl Adalberto Mejia. The ceremony was witnessed by Carmelites from throughout the province, Carmelite sisters, Lay Carmelites, diocesan priests, family members, and friends. During the ceremony the newly professed received the Carmelite habit as well as the Rule and constitutions of the Order. Assisting at the celebration were the members of the Centro Xiberta pre-novitiate community.

In his homily the Prior Provincial, Father William Harry, encouraged the men to recognize that today was a ceremony, a liturgy, but that they must live their commitment in their daily lives. At the end of Mass he thanked the parents and families, reminding everyone that “vocations do not grow in the air but the seeds of a religious vocation are planted by the family.”

The ceremony took place in the Carmelite Sisters chapel at Divine Providence Hospital, the site of the assassination of Archbishop Oscar Romero on March 24, 1980.

Let us continue to keep these two brothers in our prayers as they continue their journey in Carmel and for the many brothers in initial formation throughout the province of the Most Pure Heart of Mary.
