It was an incredible week in El Salvador last week. Many celebrations, many blessings on the community. A great step forward for the Province’s presence there.
On Thursday, August 22, Santos Cecilio Hernandez was ordained to the priesthood by Mons. Ozwaldo Escobar, OCD, bishop of Chalatenango. The ceremony took place in the parish of the Inmaculada Concepció in Santa Tecla. Joining Cecilio were his family, many diocesan priests and religious sisters, the members of the Carmelite community at Centro Xiberta, the Lay Carmelite Third Order members from the various communities established in the country, and representatives from the various parts of the Province. The overflowing church also included parishioners from Santa Tecla.
On Saturday, August 24, Brother Benjamin Constante professed solemn vows before a large gathering of Carmelites from Centro Xiberta, his family and friends, as well as members of the Lay Carmelite Third Order, and members of the Association of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. The Mass was concelebrated by Frs. Paul Henson, Alfredo Guillen, Jesus Paz, Benjamin Salas, and Cecilio Hernandez. The outstanding music was again provided by the youth choir of the Parish of Nuestra Señora de Lourdes.
On Sunday, August 25, the entire community and many people from the Parish of Nuestra Señora de Lourdes traveled to Metapan to participate in the First Mass of newly ordained Fr. Cecilio Hernandez. The town turned out en masse. The parish is quite active with two young priests, various ministries and communities within the larger parish community, as well as a very professional radio station run by parish volunteers.
We are grateful to God for the many blessings received, and for these young men and their responses to the Lord’s call to Carmel. Here are some pictures of last week’s events.
