Southside Chicago Carmelites Celebrate Peace for MLK Day

January 21, 2013 |

PeaceChicago2Buildings in downtown Chicago often raise awareness and show support for numerous issues and seasons by lighting up various colors. The Carmelites on the Southside of Chicago along with numerous other Chicago buildings are helping to celebrate Martin Luther King Day by illuminating St. Cyril’s Priory in blue in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday. Blue is the color the United Nations has chosen to symbolize peace and commonly referred to as a symbol of peace.

As we commemorate the life of Dr. King we encourage our online community to honor his commitment to nonviolence and peacemaking by reflecting for a few moments on how we can better serve as peacemakers in our own lives and communities.
