We sign ourselves with the cross, in the name of God the Father who made creation for us, in the name of God the Son who sanctifies us, and in the name of the Holy Spirit who watches over and protects us.
We come together today to give thanks for all God’s gifts that nourish our lives: gifts of family and friends, food and shelter, warmth and love.
We come together mindful of those who do not enjoy many of these gifts and pray that they will be nourished by our generosity, care and concern as we give from our abundance.
Let us pause and call to mind all the many gifts that we have received and for which we are truly thankful….. briefly name one or two
A reading from St Paul’s Letter to the Colossians
We always give thanks to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you, for we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and the love that you have for all the holy ones because of the hope reserved for you in heaven. Of this you have already heard through the word of truth, the gospel, that has come to you. Just as in the whole world it is bearing fruit and growing, so also among you, from the day you heard it and came to know the grace of God in truth.
The Word of the Lord
Good and gracious God, we come before you united with all who give you praise.
Fill us with gratitude for your many blessings,
both physical and spiritual.
We thank you in particular this Thanksgiving
for the gifts of food and family.
Bless the food, Lord, that we will share
that it may nourish our bodies.
Bless our families, especially,
those who can’t be with us.
also, we remember those of our families
who have gone to be with you and who now enjoy the heavenly banquet.
Grant us your spiritual blessings
and help us to pray daily for the grace to serve you
in response to your bountiful gifts to us.
We pray this in the name of Jesus,
Your Son, our Lord, who gives all things freely according to our needs.
Continue to bless us
and give us your peace.
