As with the earliest Carmelites who gathered together at the Garden of God, Mount Carmel, 800 years ago, this Thanksgiving let those of us who have much and those who have little gather at the welcoming table of the Lord. At this blessed feast, may rich and poor alike remember that we are called to serve on another and to walk together in God’s gracious world. With thankful hearts we praise our God who like a loving parent denies us no good thing.
Today and every day, it pleases God for us to gather as we share the bounty of the earth and the grace God has placed in each of us. For this we all give thanks and praise to our loving and gracious God.
Let us pause and call to mind all the many gifts that we have received and for which we are truly thankful………
(ALL feel free to briefly name one or two)
O God, source and giver of all things,
You manifest your infinite majesty, power and goodness
In the earth about us:
We give you honor and glory.
For the people who love and care for us.
For the food that nourishes us
For shelter and warmth
For the many ways you provide for us each day
We thank you.
For the enrichment of our souls with divine grace,
We are truly thankful.
Thank you, loving and gracious God, for having created us and given us to each other. Thank you for being with us in all our joys and sorrows, for your comfort in our sadness, your companionship in our loneliness. Thank you for yesterday, today, tomorrow and for the whole of our lives. Thank you for friends, for health and for grace. May we live this and every day conscious of all that has been given to us.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever.
